Redwood Trust Reports Fourth Quarter 2015 Results, Comments On 2016 Earnings Outlook And Announces New Share Repurchase Authorization
MILL VALLEY, Calif., Feb. 25, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Redwood Trust, Inc. (NYSE:RWT) today reported net income for the fourth quarter of 2015 of $41 million, or $0.46 per fully diluted share. This compares to net income of $19 million, or $0.22 per fully diluted share, for the third quarter of 2015 and net income of $27 million, or $0.31 per fully diluted share, for the fourth quarter of 2014.
Redwood also reported estimated REIT taxable income of $29 million, or $0.37 per share, for the fourth quarter of 2015. This compares to estimated REIT taxable income of $24 million, or $0.29 per share, for the third quarter of 2015 and estimated REIT taxable income of $16 million, or $0.20 per share, for the fourth quarter of 2014.
At December 31, 2015, Redwood reported a book value per share of $14.67, as compared to $14.69 at September 30, 2015, and $15.05 at December 31, 2014.
For the full year of 2016, Redwood currently expects GAAP earnings to fall within a range of $1.20 - $1.50 per share, which includes the impact of $6 - $7 million, or $0.06 - $0.08 per share, of nonrecurring severance payments and other charges the company expects to incur predominantly in the first quarter of 2016 related to the recently announced restructuring of its conforming residential and commercial mortgage banking businesses. Redwood also announced today that on February 24, 2016, its Board of Directors approved a new $100 million stock repurchase authorization. The company fully utilized the $100 million stock repurchase authorization received from the Board during the third quarter of 2015.
